Position Purpose
This position will oversee the fermentation culture. This position is responsible for maintaining and monitoring culture purity, system sterility, and performance aspects of the culture aimed at providing process reliability. This role will be responsible conducting process improvement experiments, data collection and analysis, and facilitating knowledge transfer. Will assist in optimization of strain, seed train, and culture development.
Principal Accountabilities
35% - Execution and analysis of various technology projects.
With minimal direction, performs assessment of fermentation key performance indicators (KPI's), ensures accuracy of data and calculations.
Has a general knowledge of plant products and operations and uses that knowledge to provide process recommendations that will result in an increase in productivity and cost reduction
Organizes and maintains accurate and pertinent data (e.g. spreadsheets, graphs and reports) to assure that process changes are controlled.
Is capable of executing fermentation related operations duties of the department.
With minimal supervision, provides recommendation on process improvements and methods for process sterility and improved strain performance.
25% - Plan and execute bench scale fermentation experiments
Makes recommendations for continuous improvement, and assists department leadership in vetting continuous improvement ideas.
Maintain and improve systems/techniques for reporting data across functional areas.
Implements and monitors laboratory and procedural standards
25% - Plant support and trouble shooting.
Conducts routine to complex sampling, testing and auditing of the fermentation process.
Uses general scientific knowledge and microbiology background to make recommendations on testing and propose changes to best suit the needs of the department
Uses general processing and microbiology knowledge to inspect plant operations, environment and equipment to ensure successful fermentation.
Assist production employees with troubleshooting activities
Provide training to the operations team to ensure use of proper aseptic techniques where required
10% - Report writing and data analysis
Interact with Fermentation Technology Leader, Regional and Global Manufacturing Technology groups to share best practices with other fermentation processes
Develops and delivers internal presentations related to operations metrics and plant trial results
5% - Housekeeping and miscellaneous lab duties
Required Qualifications:
4 year degree in microbiology, biochemistry, chemistry or a related science discipline.
Basic knowledge of spreadsheet, database and word processing computer skills
Success Factors:

Preferred Qualifications
1 years of microbiology and analytical experience in an industrial setting
Experience in fermentation experimentation
Statistical skills: Design of experiments, Variance analysis
Experience in an industrial plant setting

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
